PROBATE12 December 190212 Dec 1902, statement by Elmira Dempsey, his widow, says he left no children under the age of 16 by either marriage. Carrie was age 10 in 1900, so would have been under 16 in 1902. 29 Oct 1902, Louisa Varner aged 36 and Lora McPherson, age 32, state they are the daughters of Hiram Dempsey by his first wife, Lucy "Bolarjack", she died on the 1st day of April 1891. 19 Aug 1891, Lucinda Dempsey age 72 of Roland, White county and Martha R Bolerjack age 52 of Roland, White County, IL in their affidavit "They are well acquainted with said Soldier from the time said Soldier was born up to the time of his enlistment and know that he was a stout able bodied man and free from disease of the lungs at the time of enlistment" A couple other times Hiram states that he has only the 3 children, but these are dated in the late 1890s, so they are no proof at all where Carrie Dempsey is concerned. ; 284
